De Verdieping is the result of a dialogue between 41 alumni of HKU Graphic Design and us, 39 second-year students of the same study. Based on our individual interests within the field, we each chose a former student, who graduated between 2007 and 2021. During short meetings, these professionals shared memories of their study time and talked about how they have developed in the field afterwards. In consultation with the student, they selected a work from their own practice. This work and the conversations we had then served as a starting point for each of us to conduct a personal investigation, resulting in a design that varies from video to publication and from poster to sculpture. In AG we presented this work in relation to the work of the alumni. In this way, De Verdieping offers a new perspective on the breadth of a field that we, the youngest generation of designers, consider to be graphic design.

In preparation for De Verdieping, we worked together on the concept, design and realization of both the exhibition and the additional expressions. Parallel to the exhibition, there was an in-depth program with a lecture and talks for students.
